Newborn Photography

My son is turning ten tomorrow and this made me think of the newborn photos I have of him.  I am sad to say that when he was born I did not own a digital camera and I don't really have any good pics of his first few months.  While I was in the moment it did not matter that much, but now it does.  Taking baby photographs is a essential part of raising a child.

So here I am today with only a few pics I took his first Christmas (and they are not very good).  It is hard to remember how his tiny little body (only 2.3kg) used to look.  And now for the irony, now I make a living taking beautiful newborn photos of other kids.  I wish I could turn back the clock and start over, because I would surely do it differently.

So here is some advise to new mommies, buy a camera, no matter if its a point and shoot or a SLR, but start today and capture those moments, because if you miss it, it is gone forever.  Don't wait for the special occasions, shoot them while they sleep, eat or bath.  It is those everyday moments which you miss the most.

Cilliers happy 10th birthday and enjoy your dad & son camp experience in the bush.  I love you very much!

Tutus and Candyfloss

This shoot I did two weeks ago, and aren't the two little princesses not the cutest you've ever see.  We did the shoot in the meadow outside of town, and I think we definitely captured their spirits.  This is a family I grew up with, so it was so much fun to do this shoot.  The girls had fun with the bubbles and the candyfloss and in the final photos it got quite messy.  Love the pink tutus their mom bought online, think I have to invest in some for the studio.

Blue Eyed Little Boy

I took these shots two days ago of this adorable little boy called Brian.  He made my heart weak with those blue, blue eyes.  It has been raining the whole week, but the overcast sky made for the perfect photo opportunity.  As we started the family pics it started to drizzle and we had to stop, so I took the family shots this morning and think they turned out great.

And then the family pics I took this morning

Vintage Wilmè

Little Wilmè De Waal is two months old.  She is as pretty as a doll and I enjoyed every second of shooting her, not once did she utter a peep and those big brown eyes are just to die for.

And then we did vintage with a touch of pearls

Linè - Sweet Little Angel

This was my first ever newborn shoot and I did it six months ago.  It was very frightening to me, but after three hours we got it done.  This is what inspired me to start taking photos of newborns and ever since I think I learned a lot. Thank you Janelle and Johanet for all your help and for believing in my abilities.

And then the money shot...

And for the record, the smile is not really a smile.

I introduce DG - My Cutest Little Cousin

This is a shoot I did about a month ago.  Our newest little family member is here only a few days old, but he was such a wonderful model and did exactly what his aunt wanted him to do.  Also at the shoot was his grandparents and they are so proud, because this is their first grandchild. Just could not stop shooting!

And then my favorite ...

First attempt at blogging

Here we go. This is my first attempt blogging and hopefully I will get the hang of it soon. Well the main reason for me to begin this blog is to showcase my photos and lets start with one I took this afternoon of my adorable but strong willed little daughter called Mila. I think she looks beautiful! (and this is also my first attempt shooting into the sun it's not to shabby for the first try) With practice I think I will master it...
